So that’s where i read it was someone famous who said it. (wikipedia.org that is). but i was looking for Popes quote from Eternal sunshine of the spottless mind:

“The proper study of mankind is man” is a quote from Alexander Popes “Essay on Man”. Other well known (according to Wikipedia, that is) quotes by him are; “A little learning is a dang’rous thing”, “To err is human, to forgive, divine” and “For fools rush in where angels fear to tread”
