Tick, tock.
That is all.
Tick, tock.
That is all.
I’ve started to ride my bike to work again. And boy, do I miss the bus! The bus is relaxing, warm and dry. Riding my bike is damn exhausting, cold and wet. I haven’t been exercising my leg muscles much this winter and I regret it every single day as I struggle up the hills to spend eight hours at work just to struggle up the hills to get back home again. Yes, there are hills in both directions. How is that even possible?
Just to top everything off, I managed to roll over a large pin on Saturday and that – not surprisingly – resulted in a flat tire. But fear not, I know the way to a bike repair shop. That I don’t fix something as trivial as a flat tire myself is a shame, but I the times I’ve tried I’ve usually done even more harm to my bike. So instead I like to think that I’m doing something good for the economy by paying someone who can fix my bike in ten minutes. Boom, a job is created.*
The good news is that this year my butt didn’t get sore as hell on the first few trips, as it usually does every year. Why? I don’t know, maybe I was sitting down a lot during the winter.
In other news I’ve now finished Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City and that is the single most important reason why I’ve not posted anything in a week. That and me trying to maintain my social skills. So far, I’d say I’m very successful at doing just that and I plan to continue this week.
But the most important thing right now is that it’s only 252 hours until I’m meeting Anniken at the airport. And as crazy as it might sound, I’m flying to London to meet her. I mean, I’m usually preaching a lot about the environment; I should be taking the boat.
*And in this single paragraph, I successfully quote two great comedians. Both dead, both still hilarious.
I have a confession to make. It might look like the Global Happiness project turns out to be another one of my half-assed efforts. I’ve been reading about Python – and must admit it looks like a very interesting programming language – but have yet to implemented anything because I’ve been otherwise occupied. I’m also stuck with below-average exciting assignments at work, and this more or less sucks me dry of post-work programming motivation. But not to worry, if it’s meant to happen, it will eventually happen one day.
So what have I been up to? Nothing exciting, really. Beside a few social happenings, I’ve been playing Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City, Yes, I’m not that many days away from turning 32 and I can still play a video game for an entire evening without getting bored. Rumors have it I should enjoy it while I can, though, because some day that Xbox will suddenly turn into an expensive dust collector. I’m now fighting my way through The Ballad of Gay Tony, and I’m starting to see the first few actual signs that I’m turning old and grumpy – I find some parts of the game a little too violent!
Who would’ve thunk it? Margot might have been a psychotic stalker, but I still think there should have been an option to save her. Maybe RockStar did something ingenious and made me somewhat emotionally attached to the characters.
Am I starting to become emotional now as well!? Where will this end?
This weekend is an intriguing one. Or at least I think so, all my friends laugh at me. The reason is that the 2010 Formula 1 season kicks off this weekend and I’m psyched! I started to watch F1 races again back in 2007 and have watched almost every race since and I don’t think 2010 will be an exception.
There are a lot of interesting changes this year compared to the 2009 season. Probably the most interesting rule change is that the teams are no longer allowed to refuel during the race. The last time this rule was used was all the way back in 1993. Three new teams have been accepted to the grid, while Toyota is missing since the 2009 season. There have of course been some driver changes as well, and you might already know that seven-time World Champion and old timer Michael Schumacher has returned to Formula 1. He will be driving for Mercedes GP, formerly Brawn GP. One of my favorite drivers, Fernando Alonso, is now with Ferrari together with Felipe Massa, who is returning to Formula 1 after almost having a spring lodged through his brain last year.
So, if you, like me, enjoy cars driving around in circles at ridiculous speeds, you have a lot to look forward to this year! Continue reading "Pace." →
On the first Saturday of March, last Saturday that is, I had a little get together at my humble apartment. Naturally, I had to clean the apartment before people showed up. Even though I like to keep a clean house, it really didn’t hurt to get everything to sparkle a little extra. In between finished the living room and start work on the kitchen, I decided to watch a little TV. Cleaning might be a necessary chore, but damn it’s boring. So I needed a break.
Half way through an episode of South Park, I suddenly heard a lot of sirens that came closer and closer and then stopped not too far from my apartment building. I got up and looked out the living room window and saw this:
The fire brigade pulled two people out of the burning apartment, rescued two or three others from other apartments in the building with two ladder trucks. For me it looked like the firefighters were in total control, the time that passed between the second and third picture above was maybe 2 minutes and then the fire was more or less put out. My heroes! Seriously.
So, there you have it. Bad idea: Set fire to your apartment. Good idea: Don’t set fire to your apartment.
