Yesterday me and Gine went on quite the tour. First my parents, then her mother then a friend of hers and back home again. Since getting from my parents to her mother is a bitch*, we decided to get a cheap rental car and drive instead of relying on public transportation.
Going directly from Oslo to my parents or her mother is not a problem, we can travel directly by bus or by train respectively, but if we’re going to my parents or her mother first, a rental is a better choice. Yes, I know it’s not as environmentally friendly as it should be, but as long as it’s the same price as going with public transportation and a lot more convenient, people will still go for it. We need to be forced to think more environmentally friendly.

Greenpeace love their whales. So much, in fact, that they are satellite tracking a pack in the Southern Ocean. Of course these whales, or at least one of them, will need a name and Greenpeace has an online poll going where you can help decide the name of the whale.
Ah, the wonders of the great interweb.
As you’d probably expect, you’ll find all kinds of fascinating names there, like Aiko (”little love” in Japanese), Bumi (”world” in Malay) and Kaimana (”divine power of the sea” in Polynesian). All good names for a large mammal that will hopefully not be shot by Japanese whalers; the odds are they are way too busy firing at the Greenpeace boat. Continue reading "Mr. Splashy Pants."

You hear a lot of stuff about the environment these days. The polar ice caps are melting faster than anyone thought they would, millions of tons of carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere as the Russian tundra melts and the plant mass decomposes, probably increasing the speed and effect of Global Warming. Some scientists have been warning us about this for a long time.
“It’s not our concern, when the shit hits the fan, we’ll be dead anyway.” This has been the general consensus. I have even heard parents with small children saying it and I found that somewhat surprising, to be honest. People in general have used the Ostrich approach and put their heads into the sand.
It didn’t work in South Park - so it won’t work in real life, morons.
You can do a lot of things on a personal level that will reduce the amount of manufactured energy you spend during the day, thus reducing the amount of green house gasses emitted into the atmosphere. One of those things is environmentally friendly browsing.
