The Beatings Will Continue…

…until morale improves. It’s been a few lazy weeks, exercise wise. It happens from time to time; I just don’t exercise for a while. I know I’ve been rambling on about how important it is to keep a steady pace and go to the gym regularly, but theory and real life are two very different things some times. Usually always.

And it’s especially hard to gather the necessary strength to drag ones ass to a way too hot gym when the sun is shining and it’s 30 degress centigrade outside.  Today, however, I finally managed to put on my jogging shoes and at least run a few rounds around the block while listening to Rise Against. It was a very nice run, and I felt great afterwards.

Once again I can’t believe that I’m not taking a short run every day. It only takes half an hour and really charges both the mental and the physical batteries. Please remind me of this entry the next time I’m complaining about motivational problems.

Pass the Exam.

Yay. After two weeks of the flu and a nasty cold I’m finally back at the gym. If I had made any progress since I started working out a the gym, it was all gone now for sure. Right now I’m only working out for half an hour, but I think I got to pump it up a notch. I’m only prepared to use an hour max on the actual exercise, though. Getting back and forth, changing to workout gear and the shower afterwards take a good half an hour in addition to the workout - and I want to play some EVE as well!

That’s the main reason why there has not been many updates so far this month. After work I tend to sit down and run a few quick EVE missions and when I’m done with that it’s not much creativity left. The nice thing about playing EVE is that you can always set small goals that’s fairly easy to accomplish without too much effort. Right now I’m training to be able to fly the Covetor, the next step up from the Retriever I’m flying now. In between that I’m running missions for a corporation to raise my standings with them, which in turn means they will take less of the minerals I get when refining ore at their stations. I, for one, find it all this very entertaining.

Gym. Again.

I’m still exercising semi-regularly and I’m very pleased that I’m able to keep doing just that. My “every-other-day”-schedule tends to slip every now and then, sometimes because I can’t find the time to go, other times because I just don’t feel like exercising.

I probably should go even if I don’t feel like it, but I have come to the (favorable) conclusion that it’s important to me not to force myself to go all the time. If I do that, it’ll probably be a pain in the ass to go every time at some point.

Another thing I have come to realize is that I don’t have the right attitude to get in really great shape. I don’t mind getting tired and break a sweat, but I don’t like getting so tired I can feel the taste of blood in my mouth. So I’ll most likely never run a marathon or compete in Birken, but as long as I keep doing what I’m doing right now, I’ll stay in reasonably good shape.

Shower.

I’ve had a two week involuntary exercise break, but today I was back at the Average Joe’s Gym. Of course it’s not really called Average Joe’s Gym, but based on the people who go there it might as well have been. All ages, all shapes and people on both ends of the fitness scale. Since my last visit they have finished the locker room renovation work, opened new locker rooms on the third floor and closed the old ones in the basement.

The new locker rooms are spacey and look fresh and new. At least that goes for the men’s locker room, I have not looked inside the women’s, but I assume they look the same. The most interesting new feature is the showers. They are not like ordinary showers with levers, they are controlled by motion sensors. Quite fascinating, but with a few design flaws.

You’re not supped to touch the sensors turning on and off the shower and controlling the water temperature, but if you accidentally do - like I did once - you run the risk that the sensor will continue to register movement because you have covered it with water. So, if you turn up the water temperature, it might just go up until you get burned. It generally looked like the senors where kind of sensitive to water. A bit weird to use them in a shower, but what do I know.

Warp Speed.

It’s been a slow weekend. Gine worked Saturday and most of my time was devoted to, surprise, surprise, EVE Online. I’m still bouncing around solo in high security space, but have moved down to .7 where I have to deal with the odd rat. Right now I have two Hammerhead drones doing the dirty work for me and I’m considering moving to .6 space because surviving in .7 isn’t much of a challenge. It is of course possible that .6 is too dangerous for a scared care bear like myself.

I also went out and bought a Retriever. There will be another few days before I can actually fly it, but I found one at a reasonable price only a few jumps away, so I decided to buckle up in the Badger Mark II and fly over to transport it back home.

Yes, all that was just gibberish to all of you except one of my regular readers (yes, I take the liberty to actually think I do have regular readers), so let’s talk about the complete opposite of sitting in front of a computer playing a game. Continue reading "Warp Speed."
