We were all very impressed by this guy who played Pachelbel’s “Canon” to perfection on his electric guitar. Now, prepare to be equally impressed by Tracy Bundy, who does not sell shoes, but performs the same piece of music on an acoustic guitar almost exclusively by tapping.

I, for one, am impressed. Not only does he play the classic pieces, he also know his way around the more modern gems. What about Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” and “Kashmir” by Led Zeppelin, also performed on an acoustic guitar?

I like music, I have to admit that. Recently I realized that I really don’t listen that much to the lyrics, with some artists it’s virtually impossible to understand what the hell they are rambling on about anyway. I’m more interested in how the voice of the lead singer sounds and for some reason drums and percussion tends to fascinate me. But I guess it’s with music as any other art form, people like it for different reasons.

Even though I listen to a lot of different music, I don’t have that many CDs; it’s been a while since I made the move from CDs from downloads. iTunes and torrents are to blame for that. For a while I downloaded pirated version of the album and then bought the CD online. Yes, I downloaded pirated music, but I also bought the CD. Probably not entirely legal, but I feel I’m in the clear. Because of this I’ve got quite a lot of CDs that I’ve never actually taken out of the cover.

Then I started to buy all my music as digital downloads and now it’s time to take the next step in the digital music evolution: Spotify Premium. Continue reading "Going Premium." →

Back when I was studying to become a computer engineer in Grimstad and was working on my graduation project, I heard a song titled “Hello Time Bomb”. It was from a compilation called “Big Shiny Tunes 4″ that Hallvard had downloaded shamelessly off of the interweb. This was pre-broadband-at-home-times so he had to bring a laptop computer – with the processing power of a present day mid-range mobile phone, I might add – to school to download stuff.

He didn’t only download music, it’s Hallvard’s fault that Terje played The Sims instead of reading for his final exams one semester and that I had the chance to go postal inside the virtual hotel in Hitman: Codename 47 instead of in a real hotel.

But I digress, let’s get back to “Hello Time Bomb”. Continue reading "Vancouver." →

This is just wrong, but in a very weird way it works.

Some time last year I bought Logic 8 Express with the goal of becoming a famous musician. I have to admit that I’m not quite there yet, but that’s mainly because I didn’t get around to pick up my electric guitar from Hans Olav until two weeks ago. Or at least that’s the reason I’d like to use.

Anyway. Yesterday I sat down and played around a little with Logic and my guitar. After a couple of hours, my fingers hurt and it was about time to go to bed. You can download the untitled result here. The drums are some that came with Logic, it’s all drag and drop magic. But I play the three two guitars you hear. It’s really not as tight as it should be, I’m imagining a band with 10 year olds, but let’s face it: I don’t really know how to play the guitar.
