Cairns So Far.

Yes, I’m still in Cairns and still alive, breathing and well. After a night at Hides Hotel in a room without A/C but with a fan that was once used as an airplane engine I’ve now moved to Shenannigans, a combined hostel, motel and pub place. Central and not too pricey.

Yesterday I met up with Klas and some other crew members from the cruise boat “Spirit of Freedom” he is currently working on. Happy to be back on dry land, they had already emptied a few kegs of beer when I met them around one in the afternoon. After a couple of hours of chit chat and beers, me and Klas went back to Shenannigans where we booked him a room and picked up some stuff he had put in storage while he was out conquering the Seven Seas.

Come Tuesday. The weather machine is still broken and it’s been raining more or less all day.

Final leg: Hong Kong-Cairns

Yes, after George knows how many hours in the air I’m finally in Cairns, Australia.

Unfortunately, there is something wrong with the weather machine they’ve got installed down here, even though it should be set to “hot and sunny”, it’s on “hot and cloudy with tons of rain coming up”. Continue reading "Final leg: Hong Kong-Cairns"

Second Leg: London to Hong Kong.

Buy…a…PSP… After 12 hours on the plane I realized why I swore I would get a PSP for my next long haul. Even with a good book and tons of good music, it was boring as hell. It probably would have helped a lot if the in-flight entertainment system was working poperly, but of course mine was not. It was also without doubt the coldest flight I’ve ever been on, I’m sure it was below zero several times.

The good news is that I think I’ve been able to battle the jet lag, it’s seven in the evening now and it feels like seven in the evening, too.

Only five more hours and I’m off again.

First Leg.

I’m now in London at Heathrow Airport and have completed the first leg of my very, very long journey… I’ve had a sandwitch, some Orange Drink (thank you for the laughs, Bill) and of course the mandatory British bag of potato chips. How they manage to eat that stuff every day, I don’t know.

The next plane to Hong Kong is scheduled to take off in about two hours, and I plan to be on it. The gate hasn’t been announced yet, and getting to it can take some time - if you thought Heathrow was a large airport, you were wrong; it’s huge.

I’m also working on my sleep schedule to minimize the jet lag. My problem is that I’m unable to think in time zones, so I guess I’ll just try to sleep as little as possible on this flight and do most of the sleeping on the next. That should do the trick.

And so it begins.

Just a quick update from Gardermoen, waiting to board the British Airways flight to London. I’m mainly writing this to see how well it works to update from the Jesus-phone on the go, with a picture and all.

Not that it matters if it works or not now, since I’ll be unable to do anything about it, but I still wanted to give it a go.
