Biffy Clyro

One of my new year’s resolutions was to go to more concerts. Sounds (no pun intended) like a pretty lame and easy new year’s resolution, but I put it in there because I regret missing a few good concerts in 2012, like Ben Howard, and wanted to avoid making the same mistake in 2013.

So yesterday Anniken and I went to see the pride of Scottish music, Biffy Clyro. They’ve been to Norway before, and while they are able to fill a venue with roughly 1800 people, their fame here is far from what they experience back home where they’ve supported bands like Muse and Foo Fighters and gone on their very own arena tour as well.

But it’s a great thing that they take their time to visit Norway and the rest of Scandinavia. As a support act they are bringing the Norwegian band Blood Command, which was a surprise to me. I thought City and Colour would support Biffy on their tour, but, as it turns out, Blood Command is supporting on the European tour while City and Colour is supporting on the 2013 arena tour.

I was a bit disappointed at first, but it turned out Blood Command is a much better choice than City and Colour. Blood Command did a great job with the crowd and I’m pretty sure City and Colour will struggle a lot more, at least based on the albums I’ve listened to: The music is way too quiet on the ear compared to what Biffy Clyro does live. Blood Command’s hard core sound, on the other hand, suits them much better.

But the main course yesterday was, of course, Biffy Clyro themselves. And as the last time I saw them live, they delivered one hell of an experience. Absolutely amazing stuff. Not only did the band give 110%, the majority of the audience knew most of the lyrics and made the experience even better. I’m pretty sure I’ll be in the audience the next time Biffy decides to come visit us.

Despite the photo ban, I took a few pictures - yes, I’m such a bad boy. They turned out pretty much as expected when you use a point-and-shoot camera at a concert. Blurry and out of focus. Still, for a point-and-shoot, the Samsung Galaxy Camera didn’t do too bad, so here they are:
