Moving virtual homes

The observant visitor might notice something strange with the address of the site. Have a look in your address bar. Does it say what it’s supposed to say? Does it say www.vegard.net. No, it doesn’t. It’s just a cryptic number where that’s supposed to be.

And the reason is quite simple. I got tired of waiting for my previous host to update the DNS, so I simply uploaded the database and all the files to my new host, Segment Publishing, and made a permanent redirection from the old server to the new one. Since the DNS is not uploaded yet, there are a few bugs hanging around, the tabs won’t get their correct colour when they are selected, and I won’t get an e-mail when a new comment is posted, like I normally do. But I can live with that for a few more days. Oh, yeah, you’re remember-my-details-in-the-comments-cookie is also broken until the DNS is updated.

Update: There is also a slight fuck-up when it comes to some of the date/time-functions I’ve made. The new server is in Australia, a totally different time zone than CET, and it looks like that is somewhat confusing for my home grown CMS.

Update 2: Now it’s fixed. I think. At least until Daylight Saving Time kicks in, either here or in Australia. If there is a predictable system for this, please let me know, so I can have any differences between CET and Sydney time updated automatically.

If you nose around a little on the web, you’ll notice a lot of sites hosted by Segment Publishing actually linking to them. They’re doing this because they think SegPub is an excellent host. But I’m not going to do that just yet, need a couple of weeks to see if they’re really good at what they’re doing.

Wish me luck.

And before we go; if you’re looking for a tiny HTTP-server, like I was the other day, have a look at mcwalter.org. It’s pretty neat, at least if you’re a nerd. So just admin that you’re impressed.
