On The Subject Of News

I have to find a good news site online, preferably Norwegian since I like to stay updated on what’s going on where I live and the state of the world at the same time. There are three major Norwegian news sites: VG, Dagbladet and Aftenposten. Some people would probably also like to add NRK to the list, but I feel that their main focus is not news per se, rather promoting their TV and radio shows.

I gave up VG a couple of years ago. It’s not really a news site, it’s rather a gossip site with the odd mentioning of relevant news. Also, the screen estate consists of way to much garbage for me. Until recently I was a frequent reader of Dagbladet’s online edition, but I decided to drop that site too yesterday after their most important article for five hours was that some Norwegian blogger had stopped blogging anonymously and was now blogging using her full name to write about the Muhammad cartoons you’ve probably heard about this week.

Do I look like I care? And even if I did, why was it the most important thing that happened in the world for five hours? So now I’m only reading Aftenposten, which is good because it means I’ll use less time on reading news, and bad because I’ve only got one good Norwegian news source.

Any suggestions? Maybe I’ll spice it all up with a little bit of BBC News.

Yes, I see the irony in the fact that I’m writing that I don’t care what a certain blogger writes.
