Seeing the World

People I know are traveling the world these days. Klas is roaming Australia, spending just as much time below the sea as he does on dry land, Hege & Ola have lived three months in New York, while Verena is going on the trip of her life time in few days time.

Personally, I haven’t been out of the country for quite some time and it probably won’t happen any time soon either. In a desperate attempt to appear interesting, I’ve decided to share with you the experience of a trip I take regularly: To the grocery store.

Overview shot of the green lawn in the back yard of my apartment building.

The first thing that meet me when leaving the apartment is the view of Norway’s capital from my part of the city. You can’t tell from the picture, but there is a railway line behind the fence. In the background is the main road in and out of the city. Not much to look at.

A sign in a window. The sign says “GOD IS LOVE” in capital letters.

About 200 meter from the apartment we find a church. It doesn’t look much like a church, but the sign in the window and the easy recognizable chanting that comes from the building from time to time sort of gives it away. Ever since I saw the sign in the window, I’ve wanted to place another one below it saying something like “but he sure as hell doesn’t want you to make love”. All right, that’s entirely true, but it would still have been a fun thing to do.

A gate that prevents regular cars to pass, but allows busses through.

Not far from the church the road of is blocked to only let busses and emergency vehicles through. The road block is a major pain the ass for everyone in the area with a car because you have to take a long detour around it to get downtown if you have your car on the wrong side of the road block. Since I don’t own a car, I think it’s a great idea.

My local RIMI grocery store.

Finally, after about three minutes, I reach my destination; the grocery store. Crammed with all kinds of stuff I can buy, it enables me to have an office job and play Saints Row when I get back from work - I don’t have to spend a lot of time hunting deer and milking cows to get food and drinks on the table.

One day I hope to write something interesting here.
